Archives for the month of: June, 2013

The last time I ever put any kind of color in my hair was my sophomore or junior year.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  It was this hideous yellow, blonde, and really it wasn’t even my hair that was dyed.  I think my best friend actually installed weave into my head that color.  Either way It was hideous.  I found out a while later that my mom hated it, but because I was her daughter, and she loved me, she didn’t want to hurt my feelings.  Really mom? Really?! Thanks! SMH

So, basically, my history with coloring my hair, experimenting, hasn’t been a great one, but I’m grown now and I wanted a change.  My mom wanted me to go blonde, the right color blonde, lighten my hair with highlights at least, but I was really feeling all of these red/purple/burgundy hues I had been seeing lately.  I thought, if I’m going to do this, I’m going to make sure that  make a statement, in a good way.  So, I went the bright burgundy/red wine woute, and I am already obsessed with my new Summer look!

My hair stylist Natasha White of Two Sha’ Beauty Bar, here in Dallas, TX, she did an amazing job.  She’s the only person I trusted to transform me.  She dyed 5 bundles of my already used hair and installed them all into my head.  I love big, full hair.  It’s the only way I go.  I left my crown area out, so she dyed that as well and it all just came together so well.  I don’t regret my choice or color not one bit.

I’ve gotten so many compliments, my brother is still getting used to it, my mom and dad like it and my friends love it.  My thing is, if you’re going to dye your hair, or make a change of some sort to your image, don’t be scared, just do it.  I recommend doing research of course beforehand so you do know what route to go, but change is good.  Don’t be scared.  You never know if you’ll like it or not, unless you just take a step out on faith and…DO IT!

I took a little trip to Ulta today, for a valid eason this time, I actually needed something.  I’ve fallen in love with O.P.I.’s Bubble Bath polish.  My manicurist Lena at Nail’s By Judy here in Dallas, TX, she actually introduced me to this innocent, natural, neutral, pale, pink, pearl color.  I tend to always try new things, but when it comes to my nails, I try to stick to the same colors.  Simple colors, either skin tone or lighter, that’s what I tend to veer towards.  Bubble Bath is JUST RIGHT.  I have it on my pointy nails now, the O.P.I. Bubble Bath gel color, because I hate to sit under the dryer and wait, yes I’m impatient.

Of course I couldn’t walk out with just one thing, which never happens with me, anywhere.  At the checkout counter, Ulta has tiny bins with mostly travel size products, at great prices.  They’re real slick, putting these goodies by the checkout though, tempting you to add more and more to your purchase, which was supposed to be just one or two items.  Anyways, I saw a must-have.  Urban Decay de-slick Makeup Setting Spray.

oil free & oil control

oil free & oil control

I have extremely oily skin it gets really bad in the Summer time.  This spray, I apply all over my face, about 2-3 sprays after applying my makeup, and let dry.  It’s amazing.  It controls my oil throughout the day, controls shine, I have a matte finish and it keeps my makeup looking fresh all day.  NO smudging, NO fading.  My girl Ms. Meagan Elyce introduced me to this wonderful product.  We share the same oily skin struggle. SMH. Be sure to check out her site, tell her Ms. Chay sent you.  You’ll LOVE it!

I’ve been natural now, and I mean NO “creamy crack” has touched my head, for about 2 ½ years and I love it!  I used to be obsessed with getting a perm every 6 months or so I believe, but once I saw how my hair texture was changing for the better, even when I waited longer and longer to get a perm, my hair started growing faster and healthier…I said, ‘PERM NO MORE!”

Now, there are a few downsides to this natural process, a few minor ones, and it would be my edges.  Whenever I don’t want to deal with my natural, curly hair, I tend to get sew-ins, but my stylist leaves my edges out for a more natural look. Well, the thing about that is, I like a clean, polished, finished sew-in hairstyle, so I need my curly edges to lay down smooth…and what’s my new secret to that?

Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Ultra Strong Flex Gel.  This stuff is the bomb!  I got it in my Influenster Spring VoxBox.  I’d never heard of this line before, but my hairstylist, she swears by these products.  I’ve become a huge fan as well now. Why you ask?  Well, a little goes a long way, it smells great, I applied to my edges in the morning and they looked polished all day, it dries right away with no sticky feeling and the best thing about it…there was no white, flaky residue or build-up.  That’s very important to me.  My first impression, a great impression, and it’s definitely got me wanting to try other Schwarzkopf products in the future for sure.

So, I’m a member of this site called Influenster.  I decided to join about a month ago after seeing one of my friends on Facebook do a YouTube video about a VoxBox that she received from Influenster.  I’m all about reviewing products, talking of course, and trying new things, giving my opinion, so I was excited to join!

I’m sure you’re asking, what EXACTLY is Influenster?

Influenster is a free -to-join community of invited trendsetters who live to give opinions of products and experiences. It creates links between brands and members to reward participation and influence future products.  It’s a place for culture junkies, like myself, to come together and share their unique opinions of products and experiences. Active members of Influenster get exclusive access to deals, promotions, and swag from brands that thrive off the input (the good, the bad, and the ugly — they just want to know what’s up)!

So, this product, one of the first products that I was sent, came in a little box, with the cream and a sleep mask, which I loved and I do use and it DOES help me sleep at night…Blocks ALL light out.  The cream is formulated to do 5 things, 5 Factors of Radiance: improve tone, dullness, brown spots, texture & blotchiness.  These 5 things I need improvement on ALWAYS when dealing with my skin.

At first touch, the cream is thick.  It’s not heavy though.  I made sure that I had a clean face and I placed my toner all over my face before applying the cream and that my face was completely dry.  Seeing as though the cream is thick, I knew that a little would go a long way.  So, I dipped my middle finger in, barely, and rubbed it between my fingertips and placed on my forehead, both cheeks, my chin and on my nose and I rubbed in really well.  I made SURE that the cream was rubbed in completely.

Now, I have oily skin, so I really don’t need a lot of product when I do use any type of product.  I did notice that once the cream was rubbed in completely, and dissolved into my skin, there was a glow to my skin, sort or a dewy look.  There was not a DRY spot on my face, which honestly felt good!  The best part, that’s most visible, is that after using this every night for the past week, my dark spots have minimized, they are not as dark and I know that over time, they will eventually be invisible.

Overall, I do love this product so far, it will for sure be a part of my nighttime regimen and I know the results over time will be AWESOME! Join Influenster so you too can let your voice be heard and try out new products!
