If you all didn’t know already, I’ve been natural now, no “Creamy Crack”, for about three years now…I absolutely love it.  It’s something to get used to, it’s definitely not an easy transition, but you’ll love the new texture and the overall healthiness of your hair.  I decided to take my weave out and let my scalp breathe around late December of last year.  I’m so happy I did that.  My hair had grown so much, I was honestly surprised.  Keeping my hair weaved up, no heat or stress as well, really helped strengthen it.

My cousin Fia would tell me about The DryBar occassionally after I of course complimented her on how soft and healthy her hair looked; it was so much body and fullness to it.  So, one Friday, I made an appointment at my local DryBar.  You never get the same stylist unless you request someone and I must say, I’ve been in love with the place ever since.

Their speciality – Blowouts.  That’s all they do.  NO cuts, NO color, just plain ol’ blowouts.  Your hair is washed three times at least, this is my favorite part, and then conditioned.  They take their time and make sure your scalp is squeaky clean.  You’re taken to the stylist’s station where you’re offered a beverage of your choice, everything from water to mimosas and there begins the blowout.

There’s a menu of styles to choose from, all styles are just $40.  My favorite is a combo of the Manhattan & the Straight Up.  Seeing as though I wrap my hair at night, these two are perfect for me.  Their products aren’t heavy at all and they smell SO GOOD!  On top of all that, you’re in and out in less than two hours.  I have extremely thick hair, so being able to do my hair in record time like that, I was impressed.  I’ve given them rave reviews on Yelp because they DO deserve it and until I install my weave again, The DryBar will be my “Go-To” salon.

The last time I ever put any kind of color in my hair was my sophomore or junior year.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  It was this hideous yellow, blonde, and really it wasn’t even my hair that was dyed.  I think my best friend actually installed weave into my head that color.  Either way It was hideous.  I found out a while later that my mom hated it, but because I was her daughter, and she loved me, she didn’t want to hurt my feelings.  Really mom? Really?! Thanks! SMH

So, basically, my history with coloring my hair, experimenting, hasn’t been a great one, but I’m grown now and I wanted a change.  My mom wanted me to go blonde, the right color blonde, lighten my hair with highlights at least, but I was really feeling all of these red/purple/burgundy hues I had been seeing lately.  I thought, if I’m going to do this, I’m going to make sure that  make a statement, in a good way.  So, I went the bright burgundy/red wine woute, and I am already obsessed with my new Summer look!

My hair stylist Natasha White of Two Sha’ Beauty Bar, here in Dallas, TX, she did an amazing job.  She’s the only person I trusted to transform me.  She dyed 5 bundles of my already used hair and installed them all into my head.  I love big, full hair.  It’s the only way I go.  I left my crown area out, so she dyed that as well and it all just came together so well.  I don’t regret my choice or color not one bit.

I’ve gotten so many compliments, my brother is still getting used to it, my mom and dad like it and my friends love it.  My thing is, if you’re going to dye your hair, or make a change of some sort to your image, don’t be scared, just do it.  I recommend doing research of course beforehand so you do know what route to go, but change is good.  Don’t be scared.  You never know if you’ll like it or not, unless you just take a step out on faith and…DO IT!

I’ve been natural now, and I mean NO “creamy crack” has touched my head, for about 2 ½ years and I love it!  I used to be obsessed with getting a perm every 6 months or so I believe, but once I saw how my hair texture was changing for the better, even when I waited longer and longer to get a perm, my hair started growing faster and healthier…I said, ‘PERM NO MORE!”

Now, there are a few downsides to this natural process, a few minor ones, and it would be my edges.  Whenever I don’t want to deal with my natural, curly hair, I tend to get sew-ins, but my stylist leaves my edges out for a more natural look. Well, the thing about that is, I like a clean, polished, finished sew-in hairstyle, so I need my curly edges to lay down smooth…and what’s my new secret to that?

Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Ultra Strong Flex Gel.  This stuff is the bomb!  I got it in my Influenster Spring VoxBox.  I’d never heard of this line before, but my hairstylist, she swears by these products.  I’ve become a huge fan as well now. Why you ask?  Well, a little goes a long way, it smells great, I applied to my edges in the morning and they looked polished all day, it dries right away with no sticky feeling and the best thing about it…there was no white, flaky residue or build-up.  That’s very important to me.  My first impression, a great impression, and it’s definitely got me wanting to try other Schwarzkopf products in the future for sure.
